How does it feel? Most people liken the feeling to being flicked by an elastic band. The SkinBase system uses a special cooling handset applied to the skin prior to treatment and is infinitely more comfortable than other methods like waxing, laser or electrolysis.

How does IPL get rid of hair? During treatment, the pulsed light from the handset is absorbed by the colour in the hair where it heats up damaging the follicle and preventing the regrowth of the hair. To be permanent the hair needs to be in the ‘anagen’ phase of hair growth. Only about a 1/3 of hairs will be at this stage at any one time so a course of treatments is required.

How many treatments? For permanent results hair needs to be in the ‘anagen’ growth phrase. This means typically a course of 6-10 treatments will be needed to see the best results as only about 1/3 of hairs are in this phase at once.

Facial hair is affected by hormonal imbalances and so we advise 10-12 treatments may be required. Any hair re-growth you do have will be softer and finer than before.

No IPL or Laser system will ever achieve 100% permanent results.

How do I find out if I am suitable for treatment?
 Give us a call and we can get you booked in for a consultation, we will check there aren’t any reasons you can’t have IPL and let you know what is involved and how many treatments we recommend.

Pre-treatment Advice To Clients

8 weeks prior to treatment
No waxing, plucking or threading for at least 8 weeks and/or between IPL treatments (for hair removal treatments).

4 weeks prior to treatment
Do not expose the skin to UV or self tan for at least 4 weeks before and/or between IPL treatments.

1 week prior to treatment
Avoid intense exfoliation, microdermabrasion or peels.

24-48 hours prior to treatment
Do not use bleaching creams or perfumed products.

Please also note:
Avoid swimming in strong chlorinated water immediately before or after treatment.
Avoid wearing tight clothes when attending treatment sessions .
Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water.
Protect the skin from sun exposure with suitable clothing and use sun block SPF 30+ before first treatment and between subsequent treatment sessions but do not use sun blocking creams within 24hrs of scheduled treatments.

Post Treatment Care

To ensure your comfort after treatment, please adhere to the following post treatment recommendations:

For up to 24 hours
The skin may be red and warm after treatment this is perfectly normal and will naturally subside. If you wish, you can apply a cold compress to help calm the skin. However, it is advisable to avoid using ice as this may irritate the skin.

You can also use soothing preparations such as aloe vera, witch hazel or tea tree oil. These will help soothe skin and reduce redness after hair removal.Avoid using makeup on the treated area, allowing the skin to cool naturally and more comfortably.

For 48 Hours
Avoid all heat treatments including hot baths, saunas, steam baths and showers.
No swimming in strongly chlorinated water.
Do not use bleaching creams.
Avoid perfumed products e.g., soaps, creams or perfumes.
Leave any temporary skin responses such as redness to subside naturally. Do not touch, pick, scratch or otherwise irritate the area.

For 72 Hours
No shaving.

For 1 week
Do not exfoliate the treated area or use peels.

For 2 weeks
No UV exposure.
No self tan.
Avoid prolonged outdoor activity that may expose the skin to a lot of wind or sun.
Avoid waxing, plucking, threading (at all times during a course) .
Avoid depilation creams.

For 6 weeks
Use sun protection SPF 30+. Limit sun exposure and do not use tanning beds for at least six weeks.

Nb. Hot and humid conditions can aggravate skin immediately after treatment. Skin cooling can be very helpful, a cold compress or aloe vera gel can improve comfort and reduce any swelling or redness.

How many treatments should I have? Although a remarkable difference is seen after the first treatment, the benefits are cumulative and typically a course of 10-15 treatments will be required for optimum results.

What happens after I have finished a course of treatments? After a course of treatments you will see real improvements in how your skin looks and feels. Your facial contours will look lifted and toned with a fresher, more youthful appearance. A monthly top up treatment is then recommended to maintain results.

What happens if I stop treatments? It’s just like going to the gym for a body workout. If you stop, the results will gradually diminish and your facial muscles may eventually return to how they were before treatments commenced.

Will there be any recovery or downtime after my treatment? No. All treatments are non-invasive and gentle on the skin so there is no interruption to your lifestyle.

In what circumstances is treatment not advised? Treatment is not advised if you have any of the following conditions: All forms of cancer, pregnancy, epilepsy, diabetes, heart condition/cardiac pacemaker, thrombosis, facial implants (if treating face), skin disease (avoid area), skin lesions, recent surgery (performed within the last six months), Areas being treated with Botox® (wait three months) or dermal fillers (wait two weeks) should be avoided. Note: Anti-depressants, high blood pressure and other muscle relaxants may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

What is microcurrent? Microcurrent therapy delivers tiny electrical impulses that mirror the body’s own natural bioelectrical field. The CACI orbital microdermabrasion delivers simultaneous LED Light at the same time as the exfoliation to promote healing and skin rejuvenation.

What does orbital microdermabrasion feel like? This treatment is completely painless. We use a ‘no dragging’ and ‘no pulling’ technique on the skin and simultaneous vibrations to make the treatment very comfortable.

What is ultrasonic peeling? Our unique ultrasonic peeling handpiece rapidly vibrates on the skin (27,000 times per second) to gently exfoliate and revitalise. The vibrations draw skin impurities to the surface and dislodge dead skin cells revealing a healthy, glowing complexion. This is a more gentle alternative to orbital microdermabrasion.

What does ultrasonic peeling feel like? The ultrasonic peeling treatment creates a warm and energised feeling on the skin and is a very comfortable treatment.

What is LED light therapy? LED light therapy utilises the therapeutic properties of red and blue light to calm the skin, neutralise bacteria and reduce redness in order to help tackle acne, blemishes and scar tissue. Blue light calms the skin and destroys skin bacteria and red light stimulates new tissue growth and cellular regeneration. Combined red and blue light is extremely effective in the treatment of acne and blemishes.

What does the Wrinkle Comb feel like? Some clients may experience an intense tingling sensation, but this can be minimised by applying CACI Amino-Lift Peptide Complex in combination with the Wrinkle Comb.
